Getting to know…Chase Fraser

The 2017 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft will be held Monday, September 18 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. NLL.com correspondent Stephen Stamp introduces you to some of the players expected to be chosen near the top of the draft in this series, Getting to Know a Prospect.

Get to Know…Chase Fraser

Putting the ball in the net is a very special skill. You can teach lacrosse players a lot of things, but there seems to be a natural talent to scoring goals that just can’t be taught. Chase Fraser has it.

Fraser scored 36 goals in 14 games as a BCJALL rookie with the Delta Islanders. He bagged another 31 in his second year then exploded for 42 in 17 games as a graduating player in 2016. Throw in playoffs and Fraser scored 144 goals in 68 junior games.

The step up to Sr A lacrosse is a challenging one, but Fraser kept on scoring this summer with the Nanaimo Timbermen; he had four hat tricks including two in his final four games and his 30 goals (along with 22 assists) earned him rookie of the year honours in the Western Lacrosse Association.

There will be another big challenge when Fraser heads to the National Lacrosse League. Not many teams have spots open for righty forwards so it’s unlikely he’ll get many touches right off the bat. Fraser’s history, though, shows that he’ll find a way to put the ball in the net when he gets a chance.
