The Valentine’s Day edition of the NLL featured a heart-fluttering eight games of action, with the world’s foremost box lacrosse outfit presenting a bouquet of four one-goal games, along with a garland of prolonged winning and losing streaks that have defined this November to May relationship. The festivities also featured a historic first in the broadcast booth. How can you not be romantic about lacrosse?
Friday’s lone tussle occurred in suburban Las Vegas, where the hometown Desert Dogs welcomed the unstoppable Colorado Mammoth to Henderson’s Lee’s Family Forum. Playing without a still-injured Chase Fraser, the Sin City guys jumped out to a 7-5 halftime lead, paced by three straight second-quarter goals via the stick of Chris Cloutier. Colorado flipped the switch in the second half, outscoring LV 8-5, including separate stretches of four consecutive scores courtesy of the mountain men. Down 13-9, the Desert Dogs mounted a furious comeback, connecting on three straight goals, but the rally would end there with Colorado walking away with the 13-12 win.
Andrew Kew Leads The Way For COL
The former Swarm star posted five goals and one assist, with Owen Rahn adding a hat trick of his own. Will Malcom dished out six assists, while Jack Hannah and Dylan McIntosh combined on four scores and six helpers.
Mitch Jones Gave It His All In Defeat
The first-year Desert Dog was fabulous in the disappointing loss, scoring three and assisting on a half dozen. Jonathan Donville delivered one score and six helpers, surpassing the 300-point mark for his career. Chris Cloutier posted four and three for a Las Vegas team that comes to play every single night.

Saturday night, Colorado was back in Denver for a matchup with the Toronto Rock. With more than 9,000 fans partying in the stands and concourses of Ball Arena, the red-hot Mammoth kept the good times rolling when taking down the Rock 16-8. The Denver crew catapulted to 5-0 and 8-2 leads en route to a comfortable 9-4 halftime advantage. The Mammoth added to the battering in the second 30 minutes, propelling a six-goal run in the third to the eight-goal domination of the visitors from Ontario. Colorado has won seven straight games and is undefeated since the arrival of Jack Hannah. Next weekend, the two clubs meet once again, this time around in Hamilton.
Andrew Kew Had An Unbelievable Weekend
Kew notched four goals and six assists, bringing his point total for Friday and Saturday to a whopping 16. Incredible! Braedon Saris contributed three goals and four assists, with Will Malcom providing two scores and five helpers. All told, eight Mammoth players imprinted their names onto the scoresheet. Dillon Ward was awesome in goal, stopping 37 of 44 shots in 51:34 minutes of action. Nathan Whittom barricaded 8 of 9 blasts in relief of the all-world goalie.
Rogers and Matthews Shine On Quiet Night For The Rock
Challen Rogers deposited a hat trick and one assist, alongside Mark Matthews’ two goals and three assists in a very slow night for the Rock roster.

7,300 lacrosse lovers jammed the SaskTel Centre for what could very well be an NLL Finals preview between the Rush and the visiting Vancouver Warriors. Fans were treated to an absolute classic as Saskatchewan escaped with a 9-8 victory. Vancouver led 3-1 and 5-2, with SSK outscoring the British Columbians 7-3 to close out the contest. Trailing 8-7, Zach Manns tied the festivities 8-8, setting the stage for Robert Church’s overtime game-winner, 44 seconds into the extra session. While both clubs tallied an equal 40 shots on goal, the victors gained an edge in some of the other important intangible categories, scooping up 21 more loose balls, while garnering 17 of 21 faceoffs. The Rush are now the proud owners of an eight-game win streak. If this game is a promo for a postseason battle, count the entire NLL universe in!
There Goes That Manns
Zach Manns furnished three goals and three assists. Ryan Keenan bestowed five assists, with Robert Church and Levi Anderson totaling four scores and five helpers. Frank Scigliano was impressive between the pipes, walling off 32 of 40 shots.
Charalambides Was Stellar In The Downfall
Adam Charalambides joined Manns in the three-and-three club, while Keegan Bal and Jesse King tabulated a collective four goals and two assists. Christian Del Bianco was his usual Hall of Fame-level self, fortifying 31 of 40 shots, while dishing out two assists.

History was made in the broadcast booth of Halifax’s Scotiabank Centre when Maki Jenner became the first woman to handle play-by-play duties in an NLL game. As part of the monumental TSN telecast, Maki was joined by color commentator Pat Gregoire and field reporter Ashley Docking. Congratulations to Maki and all involved! As for the game itself, Maki and the nearly 11,000 in attendance were treated to a wonderful competition, with the three-time defending champion Buffalo Bandits defeating the T-birds 11-10. The Western New Yorkers sprinted to an 8-3 second stanza lead. HFX then scored four straight, cutting the deficit to 8-7. Buffalo regained a 10-7 lead, with HFX returning the favor when deadlocking the festivities 10-10. With high drama radiating throughout the downtown Halifax arena, Dhane Smith secured victory for the kings of the league, finding the back of the net with 2:35 remaining in the fourth. The Bandits snap a four-game losing streak, while the Nova Scotians are now the not-so-proud proprietors of a four-game slide.

Nine Buffalo players scored at least one goal, with Josh Byrne and Tehoka Nanticoke scoring two, while Smith and Ian MacKay each scored one, but supplanted six and five assists respectively. Living legend Matt Vinc was sterling in the crease, spoiling 41 of 51 blasts.
Petterson Valiant In Tough Loss
Clarke Petterson totaled seven points, with Randy Staats and Jason Knox combining on four goals and seven assists in what was an outstanding evening of box lacrosse.

The Seals moved to 4-0 on the road as part of their resounding 13-7 win at the struggling Oshawa FireWolves, who have now lost five consecutive games. San Diego surfed to a 9-1 lead at half, enhanced by Dylan Watson’s first-half hat trick. Oshawa outpaced SD 6-4 in the final 30, but it was not close to enough in the Seals’ six-goal success. The Southern Californians dominated the skirmish, outshooting OSH 62-47, attaining 73-57 loose balls, while winning the faceoff battle 18-6. This was a beatdown in every sense of the word.
The Seals Were A Well Oiled Machine
Ben McIntosh had himself a night, posting five goals and one assist. Wes Berg was highly prolific, accomplishing a pair of goals, along with a whopping seven assists. Tre Leclaire had one score and five helpers, as Dylan Watson etched a hat trick in the blowout. Chris Origlieri was a beast in goal, impeding 40 of 47 shots.
Oshawa Is Really Struggling
Tye Kurtz, Dyson Williams and Alex Simmons combined for five goals, with almost zero output coming from anyone else on the club, in yet another loss for the talented but underachieving squad.

The Ottawa Black Bears played a nip-and-tuck game with the struggling Rochester Knighthawks, defeating the Upstate New Yorkers 10-8. With the game tied 7-7 in the fourth, Reilly O’Connor and Jeff Teat gave the guys from the Canadian capital a 9-7 advantage. Zed Williams cut the lead to 9-8, before Rob Hellyer sealed the affair on a clinching goal with less than three minutes remaining. The Knighthawks have now lost four straight after beginning the season 4-1.
The Ottawa Leading Men Shine Bright
Hellyer scored three and assisted on three more. The great Mr. Teat handled two scores and four helpers, while O’Connor and Larson Sundown teamed up on three goals and four assists. Liam Aston scored his first career goal. On the back end, Zach Higgins corralled 50 of 58 flares.
Silent Night For The Rochester Stars
Connor Fields, Ryan Lanchbury and Ryan Smith only found the net on one occasion apiece, with Zed Williams and Graydon Hogg connecting in two respective instances. Riley Hutchcraft, playing in place of the suspended Rylan Hartley, clogged 33 of 43 projectiles.

The dually struggling Philadelphia Wings and Calgary Roughnecks played a hotly contested confrontation in front of nearly 10,000 fans in the venerable WestJet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome. This matchup never witnessed more than a two-goal spread with the Albertans turning a 7-6 discrepancy into a 9-7 fourth stanza lead, eventually holding on for a 10-9 triumph.
Hat Tricks In The Air In Calgary
Riley Loewen and Tanner Cook postulated hat tricks, with Tyler Pace and Haiden Dickson coalescing on two goals and five assists. Aden Walsh was amazing in the big pads, redirecting 35 of 44 shots.
Jackson Sets The Pace For Philly
Kyle Jackson scored three and assisted on two. Michael Sowers gave away three assists, with Phil Caputo and Brennan O’Neill combining on four scores and two helpers. Nick Damude played a nice game in goal, stopping 36 of 46 shots.

The Calgary Roughnecks were back at it on Sunday night, hosting the Georgia Swarm with nearly 10,500 fans bearing witness to the WestJet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome spectacle. The man of the hour for the Southerners continues to be MVP candidate goalie Brett Dobson, who once again stood on his head, discontinuing 36 of 42 shots in GA’s 11-6 road win. The Swarm led 6-3 in the third, with the Roughnecks accomplishing three straight to even things at 6-6. It was at that point that Georgia elected to put an abrupt end to the drama, scoring the night’s final five goals, solidifying the 11-6 win. The Swarm are on a roll, amid winning five consecutive outings.
Thompson Discovered A Hatty
Lyle Thompson scored a hat trick and one assist, with Nolan Byrne scoring two and assisting on four. Bryan Cole helped his buddies to five goals, alongside six other Swarm players who successfully typed their monikers onto the scorecard.
Tough Back-to-Back For Roughnecks
Coming off a hard-fought Saturday night win over the Wings, CGY ran out of gas in the fourth. Justin Inacio was a bright spot for the home guys when scoring two goals. Aden Walsh was admirable in net, forbidding 40 of 50 challenges.
