Knighthawks Set To Host Mammoth Saturday Evening

The Rochester Knighthawks (7-7) welcome the Colorado Mammoth (9-4) to the Blue Cross Arena Saturday March 31 for a 7:30p.m. EST faceoff. The game will be streaming live on NLLTV. The Knighthawks return to the friendly confines of the BCA after a two-game Western Division road trip tied for second place and a playoff berth in the East.

Despite dropping the first game of the road trip to the Calgary Roughnecks 14-13, Rochester bounced back against the Saskatchewan Rush. They grabbed a 3-0 lead early and managed to hold Saskatchewan at bay through the rest of the game to win 13-10.

As for the Mammoth, they lost 13-12 to the Vancouver Stealth on the night they retired John Grant Jr.’s  jersey. They also have a tall task this weekend, playing on back-to-back nights with a trip to the Air Canada Centre for a Friday night game against the Toronto Rock before coming to the BCA.

After the horrid six-game losing streak, Rochester’s offense rebounded in a big way. The Knighthawks feature two of the league’s top eight goal scorers (30 for Kyle Jackson and 28 for Joe Resetarits.) They also boast two of the league’s top seven point-getters (Resetarits comes in at fourth with 79 points and Cody Jamieson at seventh with 72.)

In net, Matt Vinc ranks third in goalies with over 700 minutes played with an 11.19 goals against average and second with a .784 save percentage.

However, Colorado counters in net with Dillon Ward who has a 10.85 GAA and a .787 save percentage, setting Saturday night’s tilt up for a goalie duel if Ward starts in goal.

Knighthawks rookie Jake Withers enters the game only needing four faceoff wins to move into sixth place in the team’s record books. He currently leads the league with 196 wins while only taking 305 attempts. Jay Thorimbert has 192 wins, good for second, but he has 361 attempts. Not bad for a rookie who has taken the lion’s share of Rochester’s faceoffs this season.
