Calgary Roughnecks at Ottawa Black Bears

When: 7pm ET | Tune In: ESPN+, TSN+ & NLL+ (Territory Restrictions Apply) | Where: Canadian Tire Centre

In the backend of our doubleheader, the Calgary Roughnecks (3-3) look to climb above .500 as they head to Ottawa for their first-ever matchup against the Black Bears (4-3) on Friday at 7pm ET.

Calgary is coming off a 14-9 home loss to Toronto, where Jesse King and Curtis Dickson each recorded six points, and Mathieu Gautier notched his first hat trick as a Roughneck. Meanwhile, Ottawa fell 8-4 to Vancouver, a week after narrowly defeating the same Warriors squad 9-8.

This game marks Every Child Matters Night in Ottawa, honoring Indigenous communities and raising awareness for reconciliation efforts. This is the only meeting between these teams this season. Last year, Calgary faced the New York Riptide (now relocated to Ottawa), falling 11-10, with Jesse King tallying three goals and three assists.

Milestone Watch:

  • Curtis Dickson is four goals away from passing Dan Dawson for sixth all-time and needs one assist to reach 500 in his NLL career.
  • Dane Dobbie will move into ninth all-time in points, surpassing Gary Gait, with seven points on Friday.

Players to Watch:

  • Roughnecks – D Eli Salama: The assistant captain has scooped up 47 loose balls this season, including seven last game, and is on pace to break his career-high of 116 from 2023.
  • Black Bears – G Zach Higgins: Entering Week 10, Higgins holds the best save percentage and second-best goals-against average among NLL starters.

Albany FireWolves vs Buffalo Bandits

When: 7:30pm ET | Where to Watch: ESPN+, TSN+ & NLL+ (Territory Restrictions Apply) | Where: KeyBank Center

The Buffalo Bandits (5-0) are back at KeyBank Center this Saturday night to take on the Albany FireWolves in the Week 10 Saturday Showcase. This game is extra special as it marks the 11th Tucker Out Lymphoma Night, honoring Tucker Williams, son of former Bandit and now Vegas Head Coach, Shawn Williams, who passed away from Burkitt’s Lymphoma at age eight. February 1 would have been Tucker’s 19th birthday.

For the first time, Dyson Williams, Tucker’s brother and Albany’s No. 1 overall pick in 2023, will play in the game. He designed all the Tucker jerseys and now gets to wear one himself. Last weekend, the former Duke star had three goals and three assists in Albany’s 17-13 loss to Saskatchewan.

After one more bye week, the Bandits will play every weekend through the season’s end, including two back-to-back matchups. Seven of the remaining 12 games are on the road, covering 18,628 miles in 10 weeks.

By the Numbers

  • Bandits defense shined in last week’s win over Philadelphia, with Cam Weyers scoring his first NLL goal.
  • Josh Byrne posted seven goals, five assists, matching his career-high 12-point performance.
  • Bandits scooped 99 loose balls vs. Philadelphia, with Dhane Smith picking up eight.
  • Faceoff battle: Connor Farrell (64%) vs. Joe Nardella (67%).
  • The all-time series vs. Albany is tied 3-3, with the FireWolves winning the last two in Buffalo.

Rochester Knighthawks vs Philadelphia Wings

When: 8pm ET | Where to Watch: ESPN+, TSN+ & NLL+ (Territory Restrictions Apply) | Where: Wells Fargo Center

The Rochester Knighthawks (3-6) look to snap a four-game skid as they travel to face the Philadelphia Wings (5-2) at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, February 1. Faceoff is set for 8:00 PM ET, with both teams battling for crucial midseason positioning.

The Wings come in hot after a thrilling 14-13 victory over Vancouver, fueled by Mitch Jones’ dominant 11-point night. Meanwhile, Rochester suffered another heartbreaking last-second loss to Colorado, despite Connor Fields’ eight-point effort.

Players to Watch

Rochester Knighthawks:

  • Connor Fields – The offensive catalyst, coming off an eight-point night.
  • Ryan Lanchbury – A key playmaker who had six points in the last game.
  • Riley Hutchcraft – The goalie will need a bounce-back performance against Philly’s high-powered offense.

Philadelphia Wings:

  • Mitch Jones – Fresh off an 11-point explosion, he’s the biggest scoring threat.
  • Joe Resetarits – A consistent producer with a hat trick and six assists last game.
  • Nick Damude – The goaltender made 43 saves against Vancouver and will be crucial in this matchup.

Toronto Rock vs Colorado Mammoth

When: 9:30pm ET | Where to Watch: ESPNU | Where: Ball Arena

The Colorado Mammoth pulled off a dramatic 11-10 win over the Rochester Knighthawks, with Zed Williams sealing the victory in the final seconds. Now 5-3, the Mammoth are riding momentum into a pivotal Week 10 matchup against the Toronto Rock. Offensive leaders Eli McLaughlin (4g, 1a) and Will Malcom (3g, 1a) helped drive the win, while defensive standouts Owen Rahn and Tim Edwards made key plays on both ends of the floor. With the team averaging 13 goals per game, Colorado’s offense has been firing on all cylinders, making them one of the most balanced units in the league.

Sitting fourth in the NLL standings, the Mammoth are well-positioned for a postseason push, but consistency will be key. With five road games remaining, they’ll need to maintain their strong play to secure a potential home playoff game. Meanwhile, Toronto has rebounded from a rough start, winning two straight against Calgary and Saskatchewan. Despite struggling offensively, the Rock’s defense and goaltender Nick Rose have kept them competitive.

While the Rock have begun to roll, they must propel their season forward without Mark Matthews, who was sent to the season-ending, injured-reserved list. With the Mammoth holding an 8-4 all-time record against Toronto, this showdown presents a big test for both teams. Colorado’s offensive depth will be key, while Toronto hopes to extend its win streak and climb back into the playoff race.

Players to Watch:

  • Connor Kelly (COL) – Tied for the league lead in goals (22), Kelly continues to spark the Mammoth’s offense, leading the team with 44 points.
  • Will Malcom (COL) – With 40 points (20g, 20a), Malcom has been a key playmaker in his return to Colorado.
  • Ryan Lee (COL) – The team’s top facilitator with 29 assists, Lee keeps the offense moving and ranks among the NLL’s best in playmaking.
  • Dillon Ward (COL) – Ranked top six in goals-against average (11.08) and save percentage (.788), Ward remains a rock in net.
  • Josh Dawick (TOR) – Toronto’s top scorer (14g, 13a) will need a big performance to challenge Colorado’s defense.
  • Tom Schreiber (TOR) – After missing the start of the season, Schreiber is heating up and coming off a strong six-point game.
  • Nick Rose (TOR) – Matching Ward in key goalie stats, Rose will look to keep the Mammoth’s high-powered offense in check.

Georgia Swarm vs Las Vegas Desert Dogs

When: 10pm ET | Where to Watch: ESPN+, TSN+ & NLL+ | Where: Lee’s Family Forum

The Georgia Swarm (4-3) face the Las Vegas Desert Dogs (2-5) for the first time on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:00 PM ET (7:00 PM PT) at Lee’s Family Forum. This game marks the second annual Tucker Out Lymphoma Night, honoring Desert Dogs’ Head Coach Shawn Williams’ late son, Tucker. Both teams will wear special lime green jerseys, with proceeds from a jersey auction supporting pediatric oncology research.

The Swarm, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, recently fell 12-11 in overtime to Calgary. Led by Lyle Thompson, the league’s top scorer (22G, 18A), Georgia boasts a high-powered offense but needs defensive improvement. Questions remain about goalie Brett Dobson’s form and whether defensive standout Adam Wiedemann will return after injury.

The Desert Dogs enter the matchup with momentum after a 12-10 win over San Diego, fueled by Jack Hannah’s hat trick (17G, 18A) and goalie Justin Geddie’s 43 saves (81% save percentage). Their growing team chemistry and creative trick plays could challenge Georgia’s struggling defense.

Players to Watch:

  • Lyle Thompson – The league’s top scorer continues to be the driving force behind the Swarm’s offense, looking to break their three-game skid.
  • Bryan Cole – A key playmaker and scorer, Cole provides offensive stability and leadership.
  • Andrew Kew – An integral part of the attack, Kew will need to step up and help finish scoring opportunities.
  • Miles Thompson – Recently added to the offense, he brings dynamic scoring ability and chemistry with his brother, Lyle.
  • Brett Dobson – The goaltender needs to regain his early-season form to help anchor the defense.
  • Adam Wiedemann – If he returns from injury, his defensive presence will be crucial in limiting Las Vegas’ scoring chances.
  • Jack Hannah – Coming off an 8-point performance (3g, 5a), he’s the Desert Dogs’ offensive leader and a key playmaker.
  • Justin Geddie – With 43 saves in his last game, Geddie will need another big performance to shut down Georgia’s potent attack.
  • Rob Hellyer – A veteran presence and consistent scorer, Hellyer will play a critical role in Las Vegas’ offensive strategy.
  • Charlie Bertrand – A dangerous scoring threat, Bertrand’s ability to create opportunities will be key for the Desert Dogs.
  • The Desert Dogs’ Defense – Their recent success with trick plays and strong teamwork will be tested against Georgia’s high-powered offense.

Saskatchewan Rush vs San Diego Seals

When: 10pm ET | Where to Watch: ESPN+, TSN+ & NLL+ | Where: Pechanga Arena

The San Diego Seals (3-4) look to snap a two-game losing streak as they host the Saskatchewan Rush (5-2) this Saturday, February 1st, at 7 p.m. at Pechanga Arena. The game marks Mexican Heritage Night, featuring a Pregame Tailgate Party (4:30-6:30 p.m.) with Lucha libre wrestling, games, and food vendors, plus $5 Salty’s Golden Crown Craft Beer inside the arena.

Pechanga Arena, known as “The Electric Factory”, has been a fortress for the Seals, boasting an 18-4 home record since 2022-23. However, this game kicks off a grueling February stretch, including a trip to Toronto and a home-and-home series against reigning champions Buffalo.

The Rush, after a hot 3-0 start, have split their last four games. They come off a 17-13 win over Albany, led by Zach Manns (20 goals, 15 assists) and a stingy defense, which has allowed the fourth-fewest goals in the NLL. Former Seals goalie Frank Scigliano ranks among the league’s top netminders with an 80% save percentage and a 9.57 GAA.

Historically, the Seals and Rush are evenly matched (6-5 in favor of Saskatchewan), with nearly half of their games decided by just one goal—like two heavyweights trading punches in a tightly contested fight.

Players to Watch:

  • Robert Church – Coming off a dominant 10-point performance (5g, 5a), Church will be a key offensive leader.
  • Ryan Keenan – The captain had a nine-point game in the last matchup and will be instrumental in generating scoring chances.
  • Zach Manns – Leading the team with 35 points this season, Manns will look to continue his offensive production.
  • Thomas Kiazyk – After securing his first career NLL win with 39 saves, Kiazyk’s performance in net will be crucial.
  • Saskatchewan’s Defense – With Isaac Ngyou and Jerrett Smith possibly out, the Rush’s defensive unit will need to step up against a dangerous Seals offense.
  • Ryan Benesch – Scored a hat trick in the Seals’ last game and remains a top offensive threat.
  • Rob Hellyer – Leading San Diego with 33 points this season, Hellyer will be a primary playmaker.
  • Chris Origlieri – The goaltender has a solid .765 save percentage and will need to be sharp against Saskatchewan’s high-scoring attack.
  • Ben McIntosh & Kyle Rubisch – The former Rush players will be looking to make an impact against their old team.
  • San Diego’s Offense – With multiple scoring threats, the Seals will need to find ways to break through Saskatchewan’s defense.
