Rush’S Matthews Wins Pinty’S Wingman Award

The National Lacrosse League has announced Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews as the “Pinty’s Wingman of the Week” award winner for Week 13 of the 2015 NLL regular season.

Matthews, who ranks fourth in the NLL in points (74), tied for fourth in goals (33) and tied for sixth in assists (41), earned the award after posting seven points (3+4) in Edmonton’s record-setting 16-3 road win over Rochester this past Saturday.

The 25-year-old forward has recorded five or more points and two-plus goals in all 11 of his games played this season and has had over seven points in each of his last five games. Matthews has registered over 30 goals and 30 assists in all three of his pro seasons and is on pace this year to break his single-season career-highs of 38 goals (2013) and 78 points (2014).

The Oshawa, Ontario native, who played collegiately at the University of Denver, won the 2013 NLL Rookie of the Year award after his 38 goals were the third-most by an NLL rookie in history. Edmonton selected Matthews with the first overall pick of the 2012 NLL Draft.

Each week, an NLL player will receive the “Pinty’s Wingman of the Week” award based on their performance with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities.
