NLL prospects in action, Arrows win third-straight game vs. Adanacs at LEC
The Six Nations Arrows are now just one win away from being crowned Minto Cup Champions. Thanks to a strong third period, the Arrows defeated the Coquitlam Adanacs by a score of 12-7 on Thursday at Langley Events Centre with NLL players & prospects in action.
In an evenly matched game that saw the score deadlocked at 7-7 going into the third, the Arrows pulled away scoring the final six goals of the game.
“It was where we wanted to be going into the third,” said Arrows head coach Marshall Abrams. “Brendan Bomberry came up huge for us and we’re fortunate to come out with a win.”
Bomberry scored three of the Arrows’ five third period goals, while holding the Adanacs scoreless in the final frame.
Game 5 saw Six Nations get off to a hot start jumping out to a 5-1 lead before getting into penalty trouble. A cross-checking double minor by Adam Bomberry-Davis gave Coquitlam some life, as they score twice on the man advantage, cutting the lead to 5-3 after twenty minutes.
Coquitlam did take the lead in the second period when Tyler Pace scored his sixth goal of the series to give the Adanacs a 7-6 lead. That was the lone lead Coquitlam held all game in another physical affair.
“We had our chances in the third, which would’ve been huge seeing as we didn’t score any goals that period,” said Eli McLaughlin. “We’ll regroup, get a team meal in and watch some film and cut down on our mistakes.”
The Arrows may have won Game 5, but it wasn’t without controversy. Late in the first period, Coquitlam’s Jean-Luc Chetner was coming out of the penalty box when the Arrows’ Trevor Stacey unloaded a big hit on him. Chetner was shaken up but stayed in the game, and Stacey received a five-minute roughing major. The play caused an uproar on the Adanacs bench.
“It was a gutless thing to do,” said Adanacs forward James Rahe. “Chets had his back turned and he got an elbow to the head. Whether it’s the Minto Cup or a rec league game, you don’t do things like that.”
“That was a clean hit,” said Abrams. “The refs called a blindside hit, which I’ve never heard of in lacrosse. He came out of the box and Stacey hit him with a good shoulder.”
“I believe in the boys, the boys believe and we just have to get ready for these elimination games,” said McLaughlin.
Thursday’s win marks the first time Six Nations is ahead in the series as the Arrows now lead in the best-of-seven, 3-2. Game 6 of the Minto Cup is Saturday at 11 p.m. ET at Langley Events Centre.
