Coming off a tough overtime loss the night before in Philadelphia, the Rochester Knighthawks were looking to upset the Georgia Swarm at home on the night John Grant Jr.’s No. 24 was retired by the team.
Georgia kicked off the scoring :32 into the game with a rocket from Shayne Jackson.
Rochester countered with a goal less than two minutes later by Kyle Jackson, followed by a natural hat trick by Swarm forward Holden Cattoni.
Each team scored one more goal in the first quarter to end the quarter with Georgia leading 5-2. Joe Resetarits scored for Rochester and Lyle Thompson found the net for Georgia.
Cory Vitarelli and Austin Shanks found the net for Rochester to cut the deficit to one goal.
Georgia then scored three of the next five goals to end the first half up 8-6.
First, Lyle Thompson scored his second goal of the night.
After a Cody Jameison goal, Randy Staats and Shayne Jackson found the net for Georgia.
Two minutes later, Shanks scored his second goal of the night to cut Rochester’s deficit to 2 to enter the second half.
Georgia scored the first three goals of the second half which essentially put the game out of reach.
Shayne Jackson, Lyle Thompson and Holden Cattoni scored in succession for the Swarm.
Rochester ended the skid on a Vitarelli goal and after Staats scored again for Georgia, Resetarits and Vitarelli scored to make the score 12-9.
After goals by Lyle Thompson and Shanks (both goals not pictured), Randy Staats scored his third goal of the night for Georgia.
Each team then traded goals to end the game.
First, Jackson‘s goal for Rochester.
Followed by a goal from Cattoni (his fifth of the night)
And then another goal for Shanks (his fourth goal of the game)
And Miles Thompson cemented the game with a goal with just over two minutes left in the game.
