Dodds was selected with the 21st selection in the 2020 NLL draft by the Calgary Roughnecks and was acquired by PCLC in the Expansion Draft. Dodds had a breakout rookie season in 2021-2022, scoring 84 points en-route to being named to the All-Rookie Team and being a finalist for Rookie of the Year. Dodds became just the ninth rookie in NLL history to record more than 50 assists when he notched 58 in 2021-2022.

Dodds played Jr. A for the Victoria Shamrocks and led the team to two Minto Cup appearances in 2019 and 2022. In 2022, Dodds was awarded the Henry “Del” Delmonico Trophy for the MVP of the BCJALL after finishing second in the league in scoring. Dodds led the circuit in scoring during the playoffs and led Victoria to the provincial championship. He was also named a 2022 BCJALL All-Star. In 46 career regular season games for Victoria, Dodds tallied 201 points on 86 goals and 115 assists.
