Bandits’ Smith Wins ‘Air Canada Wingman’ Again In Week 7

The National Lacrosse League has announced Buffalo Bandits forward Dhane Smith as the “Air Canada Wingman of the Week” award winner for Week 7 of the 2016 NLL season.

Smith won his second Wingman award of the season by posting a league-high 13 points, the most by an NLL player in a game so far this season, in Buffalo’s 21-14 road win over the Georgia Swarm last Sunday. The NLL’s leading scorer is averaging a league-best 8.33 points per game with 50 points (21+29) in six games this season and ranks tied for first with 21 goals and second with 29 assists.

The four-year veteran leads the league with three game-winning goals, his seven power play goals are tied for the most in the NLL, and his 35 loose balls are fourth-most among NLL forwards and tied for 21st overall. Smith has posted five or more points and at least two goals in all six games including three games with nine-plus points while scoring a hat trick in five games.

The 23-year-old from Kitchener, Ont. was Buffalo’s first-round (5th overall) selection in the 2012 NLL Draft and was named to the 2013 NLL All-Rookie Team. Smith has scored over 20 goals in each of his first four seasons, highlighted by his 2015 campaign where he recorded 107 points (39+68).
