Desert Dogs Gear Up for the Season: Key Players to Watch

The Las Vegas Desert Dogs have completed two rigorous training camps in preparation for the upcoming 2024-25 NLL Season. The first camp took place at Lee’s Family Forum, the team’s new home, and featured an exciting Black & White Scrimmage. The second camp in San Diego, saw the Dogs in a competitive scrimmage against the San Diego Seals, giving fans a preview of what’s to come.

Ahead of their first game, here are the key Desert Dogs to keep an eye on this season:

Adam Poitras: Drafted second overall, Poitras is a versatile lefty forward with standout skills on both ends of the field. Known as a “Swiss army knife,” his combination of physicality and leadership makes him a crucial player. Poitras previously captained the Minto Cup-winning Whitby Warriors, scoring 187 points.

Landon Kells: Kells is the returning starting goalie for the Dogs. He ranked fifth in saves and fourth in minutes played last season. Kells strengthened his game over the summer with the Peterborough Lakers (Major Series Lacrosse) and is set to continue anchoring the Desert Dogs’ defense.

Kyle Killen: Killen brings scoring power to the right side. Recently acquired from Vancouver, he has had two consecutive 50-point seasons. His consistent production and known craftiness around the net will add depth to the Dogs’ offense.

Jonathan Donville: The former Rookie of the Year, Donville joined the team as the second pick in the Dispersal Draft. In college, he led the University of Maryland Terrapins to an NCAA title. Donville’s championship experience and proven scoring ability will benefit the team.

Connor Kirst: Now in his third season, Kirst had a great summer with the Boston Cannons (Premier Lacrosse League). A strong presence on both ends of the floor, he won silver with Team USA at the 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championship alongside teammate Jack Hannah, adding valuable international experience.

Jack Hannah: Also in his third season, Hannah is focused on finding the back of the net more often. After competing with the Philadelphia Waterdogs (PLL) this off-season, he brings additional intensity and silver medal experience from the 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championship.

Sean Westley: Entering his second season, Westley impressed over the summer with Brooklin Lacrosse Club (MSL). His continued development and dedication make him a key contributor on the field.

The Desert Dogs open their season in Rochester on Saturday November, 30 at 7pm ET. With this talented roster, the Desert Dogs are ready to tackle the season and excite fans with their skill and determination.
