Inside Training Camp: San Diego Seals

The San Diego Seals, coming off a strong 14-win season (including the playoffs), and featuring a mix of returning stars and fresh talent, kicked off their 2024 NLL Training Camp presented by Warrior last week (Oct 31) at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista. This weekend, they’ll continue their preparations at San Diego’s new Rady Children’s Field at the Ryan YMCA.

The Seals are back and ready to compete, boasting a strong lineup that brings back key players like team captain and forward Wes Berg, faceoff expert Trevor Baptiste, and goaltender Chris Origlieri.

Alongside these returning stars, the roster gains fresh talent with seasoned forwards Rob Hellyer and Ben McIntosh, transition specialist Zach Currier, defenseman Zach Deaken, and three first-round draft picks from this year—Trent DiCicco, Jacob Power, and Robbie Turpin. Together, this mix of veterans and newcomers promises an exciting season for the Seals.

“We really wanted to add some young, talented and athletic players to our roster who could come in and contribute right away, and we’re very excited with our entire draft class,” said Seals Head Coach and General Manager Patrick Merrill. “I’ve been waiting quite a while for this to get here, and I’m excited to get to work. I expect this to be our most competitive training camp to date, and I know the guys are looking forward to the challenge.”

Training camp began last weekend, and the Seals are set for a busy schedule, including a scrimmage against the Las Vegas Desert Dogs on Saturday, Nov. 9, starting at 8pm ET at the brand-new Rady Children’s Field beneath the Ryan Family YMCA in Point Loma.

The following weekend, on Saturday, Nov. 16, the Seals will face off against their past western conference rivals, the Colorado Mammoth, in another scrimmage at Rady Children’s Field at 830pm ET.

The chase for an NLL Championship in San Diego starts on Faceoff Weekend. The Seals welcome in first-overall pick, Brennan O’Neill, and the Philadelphia Wings on Dec 1 at 6pm ET in a featured contest on ESPN2.
