Knighthawks’ Walters Wins Air Canada Wingman For Week 11

The National Lacrosse League has announced Rochester Knighthawks forward Joe Walters as the “Air Canada Wingman of the Week” award winner for Week 11 of the 2016 NLL season.

Walters recorded a combined 10 points with nine assists in Rochester’s weekend split highlighted by his eight points (1+7), including a goal and two assists in the fourth quarter, in the Knighthawks’ 17-13 home win over the New England Black Wolves on Saturday. Walters currently ranks sixth on the team in scoring with 24 points (6+18) to go along with 21 loose balls in eight games played.

The 31-year-old, an eight-year NLL veteran, has posted at least 25 assists in each of his last three full seasons and is coming off a career-best 2015 campaign where he set personal highs in goals (20), assists (33) and points (53). From Rochester, N.Y., Walters played collegiately at the University of Maryland. He finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer and a Tewaaraton Award finalist before being selected in the second round (18th overall) of the 2006 NLL Draft.

Each week, an NLL player will receive the “Air Canada Wingman of the Week” award based on their performance on the turf with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities. The weekly award winners will be entered into the pool of finalists for the “Air Canada Wingman of the Year” award at the end of the season.
