Nll Top 50: #4 Garrett Billings

Toronto Rock star posted 100+ points in league-record three-straight years

With the start of the 2015 National Lacrosse League season just three weeks away, the IL Indoor countdown of the Top 50 Players in the NLL is down to the best of the best. Toronto Rock star Garrett Billings, who made league history in 2014 by posting his third-straight 100+ point season, posts up on the #4 spot on the list as the scorer attempts to extend his streak to four-straight years.

IL Indoor contributors Bob Chavez, Stephen Stamp and Marty O’Neill collaborated with their own Top 50 lists for a points system that produced the final list. Click the link for the player to read their full analysis on Inside Lacrosse and check back to follow the countdown all the way to No. 1.

4) Garrett Billings – Toronto Rock

“As the first player with three consecutive 100-point seasons in the NLL, Billings’ numbers speak volumes about his play. He has become one of the best setup men in the league and is a remarkably consistent goal-scorer, with between 30 and 33 goals in each of his five seasons. He understands that he has to be a threat to score in order to be a dangerous passer, and he balances shooting with passing deftly. Billings is also a tremendous ambassador for the game, promoting the Toronto Rock and the game of lacrosse tirelessly.” – Stephen Stamp

“The point line for Garrett Billings over years has been astounding really. Billings stepped into Toronto’s lineup 5 years ago and took over their right side shooting responsibilies with some flare. Billings has been the best NLL powerplay guy a few years now with his blazing shot and precision accuracy. Like other greats, it doesn’t end there. Billings has some serious vision to find open guys and rack up the points. The ACL demon struck late in the 2014 season which will delay the 2015 start for Garrett, which hurts the Rock and the NLL fans he has been entertaining consistently.” – Marty O’Neill

“It’s not easy to be patient when a defense is sweating fire in your face, but Billings does it so effortlessly. It’s almost as if the game is moving in slow motion, the way he’s able to sit back and watch to find the open teammate. It’s a thing of beauty, really. But as great as his setup skills are, his shooting skills are no less impressive. He puts shots on a dime and makes teams pay hard with goals that can either bury your momentum or fire up his. His dual-threat approach is invaluable.” – Bob Chavez
