Rock Sign Nll Ironman Williams

One of the league’s all-time leading scorers inks one-year deal with Toronto

With the recent injury to captain Colin Doyle, the Toronto Rock have addressed their offensive depth with the addition of one of the league’s all-time greats in forward Shawn Williams. The 17-year NLL veteran has signed a one-year agreement, pending league approval.

Williams began his NLL career with the Rock franchise in 1998 and was also a member of the NLL championship Toronto Rock team in 1999. From there, Williams moved on to Buffalo the next season with stops in Rochester, Edmonton, another tour of duty in Buffalo and now back to where it all began in Toronto.

“This has been in the works for a few weeks,” said Rock owner and president Jamie Dawick. “We are continuing down a path of addressing our offensive depth since learning of the severity of Colin’s injury. We were able to put pen to paper and I’m excited to have someone that I have always considered one of the classiest guys in the game, on our side.”

The offensive lefty has scored 444 goals and added 708 assists for 1152 career points in 257 NLL games. Those totals place him 2nd in games played, 5th in goals, 4th in assists and 6th in points on the league’s all-time lists. The future NLL Hall of Famer has won two Champion’s Cup titles. In addition to his 1999 ring with the Rock, he also raised the Cup in 2007 with Rochester. Williams has the distinction of being the NLL’s reigning “Iron Man” having played in a league-record 230 consecutive games.

With Williams now in the fold, that brings Toronto’s veteran offensive lefty forward depth chart total to four, with Stephan Leblanc, Josh Sanderson and Kevin Ross already under contract. 2014 draft pick Jordan Robertson and free agent addition Dylan Webster are two other lefty forwards that will compete for a spot up front.

Toronto Rock training camp will open on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. Players will complete their physicals throughout the morning before hitting the turf for a 2pm on floor session.

2015 Toronto Rock Season Tickets, Flex Packs and the Upper Bowl Season Pass are also all on sale now. For more information, please visit torontorock.com or call 416-596-3075.
