Rock’S Sanderson Wins ‘Air Canada Wingman’ Award For Week 8

The National Lacrosse League has announced Toronto Rock forward Josh Sanderson as the “Air Canada Wingman of the Week” award winner for Week 8 of the 2016 NLL season.

Sanderson posted a team-high seven points (1+6), game-high six assists, and the game-winning goal as the Rock earned its first victory of the season with a 14-12 home win over the Buffalo Bandits on Friday night. After missing the first five games of the year due to injury, Sanderson has sparked Toronto with 12 points (2+10) in two games, and now ranks fifth in team scoring and tied for seventh in the NLL overall with a six points-per-game average.

Last year, Sanderson tied the NLL single-season record with 83 assists en route to winning the 2015 NLL Wingman of the Year award and being named All-Pro Second Team. The 38-year-old from Orangeville, Ont. was a second-round (16th overall) selection in the 1997 NLL Draft. The 19-year NLL veteran has posted 60 or more points in each of his last 14 seasons including five 100-plus point campaigns.

Air Canada is the Official Airline Partner for the NLL. Each week, an NLL player will receive the “Air Canada Wingman of the Week” award based on their performance on the turf with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities.
