Roughnecks Sign Six Draft Picks & Two Free Agents

The Calgary Roughnecks have announced the team has signed six ’15 draft picks, Mitch De Snoo, Tyson Bell, Kellen LeClair, Jacob Ruest, Jordan Kancsal and Carson Barton, along with free-agent defenseman Mitch Banister and free-agent forward Jason Jones, to one-year contracts for the 2016 NLL season.

Banister, 25, spent his entire junior career with the Okotoks Junior A Raiders of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.  The local product was originally selected by the Edmonton Rush in the fourth round, 35th overall, in the 2012 NLL Draft.  He recorded one assist and one loose ball in his NLL debut with Edmonton on April 12, 2014.  This summer, Banister played in his fourth WLA season with the Maple Ridge Burrards.

Jones, a native of North Delta, British Columbia, recently completed his third season with the WLA’s Burnaby Lakers where he finished second in team scoring with 57 points (19 goals, 38 assists) over 17 games.  The 27-year-old forward has appeared in 81 career games over seven seasons with both the Lakers and Coquitlam Adanacs, recording 100 goals and 130 assists for 230 points during that span.

The six signed draft picks include: three defenceman, two forwards and one local product in 21-year-old goaltender Jordan Kancsal, selected 44th overall. Kancsal recently completed his final junior season with the RMLL’s Calgary Junior A Mountaineers.
