Rush’S Matthews Wins Pinty’S Wingman For Week 16

The National Lacrosse League has announced Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews as the “Pinty’s Wingman of the Week” award winner for Week 16 of the 2015 NLL regular season, marking the second time Matthews has won the award in the last month.

Matthews, who ranks second in the NLL with 103 points (47+56), tied for second with 47 goals and tied for third with 56 assists, posted nine points (4+5) in the team’s 13-12 win over Colorado on Saturday that clinched the top seed in the West Division for Edmonton for the second-straight year.

The 25-year-old forward has recorded four or more points and two-plus goals in all 16 of his games played this season and has had seven points or more in nine games. Matthews has registered over 30 goals and 30 assists in all three of his pro seasons. Matthews set the Rush’s new single-season franchise record for points and has already bested his previous career highs by nine goals and 25 points with two games still remaining.

The Oshawa, Ontario native, who played collegiately at the University of Denver, won the 2013 NLL Rookie of the Year award after his 38 goals were the third-most by an NLL rookie in history. Edmonton selected Matthews with the first overall pick of the 2012 NLL Draft. He also won the Pinty’s Wingman award earlier this year with his seven-point effort in Week 13.

Pinty’s is an official partner for the NLL on TSN during the 2015 season. Each week, an NLL player will receive the “Pinty’s Wingman of the Week” award based on their performance with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities.
